I go to the ocean to calm down, to reconnect with the creator, to just be happy.

Psalms of Delight
...

Most of the Bible's Psalms give thanks to God on one or more levels. Commanded to do so, Christians aught to make the time to praise God for His glorious nature, creative genius and many gifts to mankind.

Psalms of Delight are written in concert with
Psalms in the Night. Both series contain Modern Psalms meant to comfort and inspire those seeking the Omni-God revealed in Scripture.

Glory Of The Sea Summary

In many ways isn't the sea a foretaste of it's Creator? Who hasn't felt overwhelmed in the presence of the ocean? Who hasn't longed to more fully experience it's beauty and wonder? We feel happiness just being near the ocean and disappointed over leaving. Thankfully, Scripture promises those who please the Lord will one day arrive on the shores of eternal joy, never to depart.

There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small.

- Psalm 104:25 NIV

Glory Of The Sea

Modern Psalm of Delight 12

Creation is glorious. Everywhere we look there's a mind blowing reflection of You if our eyes are open see. From cosmology to chemistry Your wisdom radiates throughout an unbelievable and eternal drama being played out across the multiverse.

As children, we joyfully marveled over Your world, but over time we seemed to have lost the knack. Still, there's some childlike wonder left in most of us. Like many of the Bible's Psalmists, the author of Psalm 104 had plenty:

  • "Let all that I am praise the Lord. O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind." Psalm 104:1-3

  • "What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with Wisdom at your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations. Oh, look—the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon." Psalms 104:24-25 MSG
I have to agree that one of Your greatest creations is the sea. Walking along the breaking surf is like tip toeing through a miracle. And the size! A hundred and fifty million square miles of crystal blue beauty to play with. And the fish! Some suspect there may be two million forms of marine life. It's a kaleidoscope of species. All their fantastic colors and shapes. All their amazing abilities and behaviors. All made for Your pleasure and our enjoyment.

Show off.

There's so much secretly happening in, on and under the sea. And because of it. The sea hugs the globe and nurtures all life. Rains down as fresh water and stabilizes our climate. Provides food and refreshes the soul.

In many ways the sea's a lot like You. You're the glory of the sea! Thanks for a glimpse, a tiny taste of Your majesty. I got to tell Ya, if the sea and the entire Earth are just the preview, I'd really love to experience the
Real Thing.

BTW: Love Amy Grant's Psalms 104 from back in the day :0)
