Approaching God One Thought At A Time

To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.

Psalms in the Night

With so many wonderful Biblical promises and powerful examples of God's interaction with mankind, see Psalms of Delight, Psalms in the Night are a way of exploring and sharing some of the difficult and challenging thoughts, feelings and experiences God's people encounter while endeavoring to fully enjoy His presence and power, protection and provision. In ever more genuine and meaningful ways. For themselves and their children, family and friends.

Psalms in the Night are written in concert with Psalms of Delight. Both series contain Modern Psalms meant to comfort and inspire those seeking the Omni-God revealed in Scripture.

Almost Summary

Ever felt God's presence so near you could almost feel or taste it? Some describe a sense of light, power or electrical current. Many people are satisfied with such rare occurrences. Others hunger for more. The Book of Acts begins with God's power and presence falling on Pentecost, brought near by radical disciples seeking the Holy Spirit like their lives depended on it. Makes one wonder what could happen today given similar fervency.

Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results.

- James 5:16 TLB

Almost

Modern Psalm in the Night 6

Lord, felt like I almost broke through the other night. Pert near but not quite plumb. Close but no cigar. But You know what they say. Near only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

So what's it been? Literally about a thousand
prayer meetings of various kinds over the last three decades? Big and small, mostly small, they've been good, more or less. Or at least what passes for good these days.

Last night's was better than most. A handful of
Praying Parents getting together for hours getting after it on behalf of lost family and friends being decimated by Satan and original sin's temptation and deception.

Unfortunately, I know wherein I speak. I organized the group when my
21 year old daughter went AWOL. Following in the sin of her older brother, she's broken her parent's hearts and I'm hoping we're all weighing heavy on Yours.

You know better than any the world's become a wonderland of
temptation and deception, entitlement and me-ism, immorality and sin, the likes of which mankind's never encountered before. Movies and music, magazines and the internet, it's 24/7 non stop shopping for anything and everything. Right and wrong's so jumbled up today half the time parent's don't even appreciate the subtleties. Much less kids and young adults.

Almost.

Felt like You might have been about to
make an appearance. Not the "wherever two or more of you are gathered" kind of appearance. I'm talking visitation. Something wonderful. That is one one of Your many names. Something powerful and life altering. Something that turns victims into victors. You remember, lighting and tongues of fire.

You know
we miss You, right? We miss the awesomeness we've only read about. We miss being totally overwhelmed by God. We miss knowing You in a way that goes far beyond knowledge. We miss what we've never known.

So do our kids. Oh, they grew up on all the stories. Mine never went a single day without love and nurturing, training and admonition. But hearing about You ain't the same as encountering You. Not for them. Not for us.

I'm not talking about charismatic events. Was raised on the stuff. I'm talking about something far more. Something like a genuine personal Pentecost. Fact is, the world could use a
New Pentecost with an immediate global yield of a million Upper Rooms seeing we've got over 7 billion souls at risk this very second. And every second thereafter.

And seeing we can't even hang on to even our own kids...

Let me sing it to You in the words of that contemporary psalmist Bono:

I have climbed highest mountains
I have run through the fields
Only to be with you
Only to be with you
I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
These city walls
Only to be with you

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing fingertips
It burned like a fire
This burning desire

I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for

I believe in the Kingdom Come
When all the colors will bleed into one
Bleed into one
Well, yes I'm still running

You broke the bonds
And you loosened the chains
Carried the cross
Of all my shame
all my shame
You know I believe it

But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for
But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
