Lightning has long been associated with the power of the God. Could the birth of a lightning strike provide insight into waiting on the Lord for revival? Notice how the presence of Lightning descending from Heaven attracts "leaders" from Earth, without which there would be no exchange of powerful.
As St. Augustine noted, "Without God man cannot. Without man God will not. From a spiritual point of view, the back and forth progress of the potential Lightning as it approaches Earth raises questions. How often might God be willing to move but find no Earthly "leaders" lifting their faith skyward? What prayers and/or actions on our part reach God in a way that would attract a fiery Spirit strike? What must we do to become the kind of Lightning rods modeled by Christ and His apostles in the Gospels and the Book of Acts.
Are there times when we begin seriously seeking God, and conditions ripen for a Heavenly storm, only to find we've given in to discouragement and dissipated the opportunity to experience God's power for ourselves, families and world? Does God desire to reveal His might, yet find Himself limited by our unbelief and grieving of His Holy Spirit?
Worth the Effort?
There may be as many opinions as to how and why to seek God as there are people. Many in the modern world find the prospect too daunting. Given the Creator's transcendence and majesty, as well as His apparent silence and distance, today billions find it simpler to "eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die."
Yet in the end is it? As mortal beings, fearfully and wonderfully made, we desperately need to know our Creator and Savior. Facing challenges and dangers in both time and eternity, as well as the ultimate Evil One, what better use of our time and energy could there be?
While our need is great, God is greater. Thankfully the Bible is full of encouragement for those willing to accept its reproof and direction. Awesome and awe-ful as He is, let us approach God confidently, knowing scripture assures He takes "no pleasure in the death of the wicked" and "is not willing that any should perish."
Let us join in the Apostle Paul's greatest prayer, that God would grant us:
"...according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 2:16-21
Now that's something worth getting revived for...
