The Big Questions

Modern life is filled with contradictions and ironies. For example, First World citizens enjoy an endless list of amazing advances in technology, communication, transportation, business, medicine, education, entertainment...

Yet even with all we know we've hardly made progress in the last several hundred years in scratching the surface of the Big Questions. Admittedly the questions of Ultimate Concerns are daunting and may seem unkownable. Even so they tower over our lives demanding answers.

Difficult and Impossible

Clearly science and technology are living proof that the difficult can easily be achieved if we work together. What was impossible yesterday in taken for granted tomorrow as the unseen elements of creation yield to the mind of man. It would seem God's declaration that "Nothing shall be impossible for them" concerning the civilization that built the Tower of Babel is even more true today as we pour our best resources into unlocking the secrets of our planet and universe!

Still, for some reason even Christians seem reluctant to invest the time, energy and resource necessary to investigate the Great Questions of our time. In fact, if science were as hesitant we would still be in the Dark Ages.

Others plunge in with thoughts and emotions, ideas and concepts often lacking the structure or reasoning necessary to make real gains. Again we have the example of the scientific method that great advances can only be made through genuine honesty concerning the outcome of our efforts. We must be willing to not only develop ideas and theories but to test them and admit when they are less than successful, return to the drawing board and continue our research.

Better Together

Several factors fuel the engines of science and technology. Wealth and fame, curiosity and humanitarianism are but a few. While these are often be achieved with immediacy and notoriety they are eclipsed but the importance of understanding our place in the world and eternity.

Regardless of the bad press, faith and reason fit together like hand and glove. In this regard Christianity excels other religions in revelation as the Moon excels Everest in elevation (see article/blog "Ten Reasons to Believe"). It's high time we make use of the Bible and technology to find the answers so needed by humanity today.
