Fundamentals

The basics of any worthy endeavor are always important. The study of God through theology and doctrine is no exception. While approaching God through Christian principals and practice may be uncomplicated enough for a child to do so it remains complex enough to have inspired religious institutions and universities down through the centuries.

A theologian and a cosmologist were having lunch when the cosmologist confronted his fellow professor. "You theologians make the Creator too complicated. Understanding Him should be as simple as 'Jesus loves me this I know.'" After a moment the theologian nodded and admitted he had similar feelings about studying creation. "And perhaps you should keep cosmology as simple as 'Twinkle twinkle little star...'"

Practice these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress.

- 1 Timothy 4:15 GW

While Jesus loves me this I know is an essential core truth of Scripture there's a little more to the Bible than John 3:16. By some estimates the King James Bible includes:

  • Number of books in the Bible: 66
  • Chapters: 1,189
  • Verses: 31,102
  • Words: 783,137
  • Letters: 3,116,480
  • Number of promises that are given in the Bible: 1,260
  • Commands: 6,468
  • Predictions: over 8,000
  • Fulfilled prophecy: 2,000
  • Unfulfilled prophecy: 500
  • Number of questions: 3,294
  • Number of times the word "God" appears: 4,094
  • Number of times the word "Lord" appears: 6,781
  • Number of different authors: 40
  • Number of languages the Bible has been translated into: over 1,200

More Than Meets The Eye

Adding to scripture's depth is overwhelming evidence of it's Divine inspiration. Clearly with Omnity as Author, one would expect to find far more in its pages than immediately meets the eye. Like Earth's geological record and the physics of the Universe, layers of meaning and truth build on one another in astounding ways.

With over 38,000 varying Christian denominations clearly there are many differing opinions on even the basics of our faith. This being the case, there was never a more important time to have far, factual and friendly discussion on the tenants we hold most dear.

Still we do well to remember that while Biblical truth may be a rock it takes many to unearth and carry, it is
not a consensus. Furthermore, since Christianity represents a skyscraper reaching to Heaven, if our foundation is faulty before long we may find our churches crumbling and ourselves falling back to Earth.

Scripture tells us God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. In his epistles Paul offers three examples of due diligence; the soldier, farmer and athlete.

Of these three the athlete has the least to loose yet what true athlete fails to train hard many hours a week? Unfortunately with the average devotion-study time of Christians being a few minutes a day many, if not most, fail to correctly comprehend even the basics of the Bible much less enjoy a real relationship with God.
