Approaching God One Thought At A Time

Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.

Scripture declares:

  • For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body." 2 Corinthians 4:6-10

True to their name, for the better part of two decades Jars of Clay has been producing and performing recordings embracing both the hope and sorrow inherent in human life. Noting the importance of brokenness, their lyrics and music video content tell the tale of Christians yearning to push through the silence and distance of God, while more often than not still struggling with tough issues such as morality, temptation and sanctification. Their release, "Two Hands" upbeat ballad laments: "I use one hand to draw You closer, the other to push You away. If I had two hands, doing the same thing..."

Finally, brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts on whatever is right or deserves praise: things that are true, honorable, fair, pure, acceptable, or commendable.

- Philippians 4:8 GW
